On this day in 1845, the New York Mirror published Edgar Allan Poe's poem, 'The Raven." It remains to this day one of the most popular poems ever written; the vast majority of Americans can correctly identify Poe as the author, and almost as many can even quote a line or two, or at least give out with a 'Nevermore.'
