Between now and November, the internet, the media, and the electronic tools of the 21st century will all conspire to 'dumb down' the Presidential election with a pastiche of irelevant photos, undocumented rumors and personal attacks.

Please try to rise above this claptrap. Think about where we are as a country, where we've been, and where we're headed; choose the candidate you think, based on FACTS you'll have to work hard to glean, will be better for the U.S.A. and the world. VOTE!

Random Thoughts II

The GOP VP nominee has a pregnant daughter and a Down's Syndrome child -- irrelevant. She would revoke Roe v Wade and teach Creationism side-by-side with Science -- relevant. Keep your eye on the ball, people!

Except for the Yankees, this is the best baseball season within memory -- exciting races all over the country, even in small markets like Milwaukee and Minneapolis.

Paid programming -- the stuff on TV when normal people are asleep -- is getting scary; almost all of it is selling something 'not sold in stores.' Why? Most likely because it's junk!

A McCain advisor warns that the campaign dirt will become 'Swift Boat times 5' very soon. We just have to bury these guys... good or evil doesn't matter to them, only what works.

Where are all the political bumper stickers? I haven't seen much activity on this front.

Hurricane Gustav -- Who do you trust?

American media kept Hurricane Fay on the front pages for almost three weeks, despite the fact that Fay NEVER reached official hurricane status.

Reporters are no longer reporters, they're actors in a sort of news soap opera. News is no longer news, it's entertainment, a truth-twisting saga that is part reality, part wishful thinking, and part sensationalism.

Just where does Gustav sit with this knee-jerk emotionalism? Your guess is as good as mine.

New Orleans is being evacuated, and that's a good thing, for sure, but trying to nail down Gustav facts is as difficult as closing out a Mets game. Gustav, for example, was downgraded to a Category 3 hurricane early Sunday; is there any chance at all that New Orleans can dodge this bullet? If there is, NOBODY is reporting it. When you can't trust a weather report, your news services are in serious trouble.
