Phelps, Daschle and Politically Correct

It's official. After 20-odd years of political correctness, nobody knows what's right and what's wrong any more. We have no more heroes, no more statesmen, no more role models. George Washington over-spent his expense account, Thomas Jefferson was a slaver, Abraham Lincoln was gay. Forget climbing up the slippery slope, just get yourself a toboggan and enjoy the ride down.

Michael Phelps took a hit off a bong. Get the medals back, throw him into rehab. Hell, there's even a southern sheriff trying to dredge up criminal action! Doesn't anybody think that maybe the person who sold the picture is the actual sleazeball? And the person who printed it? And the media that leaped on it?

Tom Daschle is without argument the most qualified person to guide the country to a new world of universal health care. Forget it! He made a mistake on his taxes, he's OUT. Tax preparation is about as relevant to the job as his golf handicap, but we just don't care; slime trumps sanity.

Hey, if he CHEATED on his income tax, that's different, but honest mistakes, no matter how stupid, should NOT be career crushers. America has a Byzantine tax structure that 80 percent of us cannot fill out correctly, but Daschle is history because of some 'aura' of vincibility he now emits.

PC appears to be our permanent way of life now. God help us.
