Feet of Clay, Feeding Frenzy

John Edwards had an extramarital affair. OK, this is news, but is it front-page news? Is it front-page news FOR A SOLID WEEK?
Our media, which has for several years been sinking inexorably into an abyss of infotainment claptrap, appears now to have arrived at the bottom.

We should get no pleasure from an ugly, embarrassing story about human frailty and deceit. We should see ourselves in this mirror -- report it, read it, wince, and move on.

  1. Let me get this straight -- a person runs for the most powerful office in the world, holds himself up as a moral exemplar, criticizes the opposing party on ethical bases, parade his cancer-afflicted wife in his campaign, cheats on her (excusing himself because she was in remission while he was engaged in his infidelity), gets caught, denies it for years-- and the press is to blame for pushing the story!?
