Ban on Iranian pistachios now in effect

This is not a political article. This is an article that illustrates how the little guy, all around the world, in every country, gets screwed by the people in power.

A U.S. ban on Iranian pistachios went into effect on Wednesday, as the Obama administration ratchets up economic pressure on Iran to open its nuclear facilities to international inspection.

Iranian pistachios are the best in the world. There are NO pistachios that are even close. Any pistachio lover who was alive during the 50s and 60s, when this country and Iran were still friendly, knows this fact to be incontrovertible.

As relations between the two countries deteriorated, the supply of Iranian pistachios dwindled; by 1980 they could be found only through dedicated searches, and usually in Middle Eastern bodegas in places like Jersey City and Brooklyn. Now even that meager supply has been cut off.

The little farmer guy in Iran is getting screwed out of the world's biggest pistachio market, and the little guy in that market who likes pistachios is being forced to eat inferior nuts. And so it goes.
