Another Madison drive-by

When this senior citizen housing was initially proposed, just about everyone thought it was a bad idea. Now, as it nears its August completion date (and is looking pretty cool, by the way), just about everybody with gray hair wants in. So it goes. And speaking about 'so it goes,' how come that NAPA store remains empty? Does Madison have anybody working on commercial leases?

  1. Senior Citizen housing within walking distance to Main St. stores is an obvious winner. But the design is deplorable -- something Howard Roark would have taken a stick of dynamite to. It is second in ugliness only to that monument to East German architectural severity -- the recently constructed (but always being repaired) Madison Correctional Facility near the train station.

  2. OK, so it ain't the Fountainhead or Phillip Johnson. It was simply intended to be a kind of homage to the site's original structure -- a bell-towered firehouse -- and it brings a smile to a lot of long-time residents... which is more than can be said for the East German Sing-Sing South to which you refer. BTW, there's a strong rumor that there will actually be a bell in the new tower.
