Getting kids into Chemistry

The Periodic Table of the Elements is a traditional educational starting point for a nerd -- The majority of high schoolers take one look at this formidable design element of chemistry and decide that a career in Science is not in the cards. The nerd, however, sees the beauty of the table and revels in the esoteric knowledge its perusal elicits.

Now, thanks to the University of Kentucky science guys, the famous table may be more interesting to the comic book crowd. KU Science has linked the elements to comic book references -- click on the element, and comics that have used that element pop up.

Not all the elements have references, to be sure, but there are many more than one would think. Hafnium, for example, has a comic reference!

Just click on this article's headline to see the table. .

  1. JACK! Killer cool! I'll show it to Owen later...he just got on the bus. But you know if DJ is as Visual Spacial as Owen he'll love it too!. My Dad, the ultimate geek, has it memorized. He loves this stuff. He knows what it means and has pictures of the elements in his head and can tell you what elements are in things and how they connect and break apart. nuts!

    Thanks for the heads up
